TPLINK TD-W8901G

Do you need a cost effective 3 in one solution for your ADSL connection? The TPLINK TD-W8901G may be the solution for you. Costs effective in this setting means: very low price for the features and performance that you get with this device. The basic functions are: ADSL2+ modem (24Mbps down and up to 3.5Mbps up, AnnexM), router with SPI firewall, NAT and 4 ports 10/100Base-T switch and a 802.11b/g 54 Mbps wireless access point (AP).

The TD-W8901G includes a built-in QoS engine that helps prioritize Internet traffic to enable smooth Internet phone calls (VoIP) and lag-free online gaming. To prevent unauthorized wireless access into your network, the TD-W8910G supports the latest encryption including WEP, WPA, and WPA2. There is a lot more available like DHCP, uPnP, DMZ, port triggering and NAPT (Network Address Port Translation), checkout all the features here.

Your network is protected from the internet by the built-in firewall supporting IP address filtering, MAC address filtering and parental control. The TD-W8901G comes with a CD that contains the Easy Setup Assistant that makes the installation and configuration a breeze; even for non technical users.

For ISP or Telco: the TPLINK ADSL modem/routers support TR-069 making auto provisioning very easy, keeping the costs for connecting new subscribers and managing the installed base low. During our testing we did not find any Benelux ISP the device could not connect to. :-D

  1. I bought that wireless ADSL2+ router, and I’m wondering if is there anything on flashing this device with a custom GNU/Linux firmware?

  2. Hi Sylware,

I’m not an expert on replacing original firmwares to custom GNU/Linux firmwares.

For a lot of TPLINK products TPLINK provides GNU/GPL source codes on their website (not for the particular model you have though).

Having a look at the source codes could give you a good impression on the possibilities of changing it right?
