28-12-2009 QNAP has released a new firmware for their network multimedia player: the QNAP NMP-1000. This new version v1.1.4 is available for both PAL and NTSC (40,3MB) from their (download) website.
The new firmware contains new features, enhancements and bug fixes.
Some nice stuff:
- Multiple resume for video playback
- Picasa webalbum support
- Blue light switch off from settings
- Adjustable settings like brightness and contrast for subtitles while watching a movie
- Shoutcast search support
- Support AVC HD Level 5.1 for mp4 and mkv file
- And a lot more changes/additions/fixes

In the 01-2010 edition of the Dutch "PC Magazine" the QNAP NMP-1000 is reviewed.
The conclusion is:
Pros
- Extensive file support and clear menus +
- Tasteful interface and simple menu structure which is sufficiently fast to use.
- Remote seems of a much better quality than we are accustomed to with other media players
- Solid and tasteful housing.
Cons
- Significantly higher priced than comparable media players (me: what do you get more in return!)

If you have an ADSL, ADSL2 or ADSL2+ internet connection this is a product for you. This router is working on all ADSL subscriptions we have found so far in BeNeLux area and offers you a lot of functionality over most standard supplied modem/routers. (in BeNeLux area most connections come with a subsidized modem/router from the ISP)
The TD-W8960N has 1 ADSL2+ port and a 4 port 10/100Mbps LAN switch. ADSL speeds can be up to 24Mbps download and 3.5Mbps upload (AnnexM) depending on your subscription and distance from the DSLAM/MDF. The built in 300Mbps wireless N access point (AP) will extend your throughput 15 times and your range 5 times when compared to 802.11b/g AP's depending on your location (as usual). 
TheTD-W8960N is very easy to configure with the accompanying CD with Easy Set-up Assistant that will guide you through all setting for the ADSL connection, local network settings and wireless network settings.
Your connections are secured by the Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) Firewall and Network Address translation (NAT) so intruders cannot attack you from the internet. Your wireless access is protected by WPA/WPA2 with up to AES encryption, this is still very easy to configure by the Quick Security Setup (QSS) feature which is Wireless Privacy Setup (WPS) compliant. Just push a button and enter a PIN code.

Zojuist mijn eerste post in het Nederlands gedaan... Ik zou graag lezen of dat iets is dat gewenst is.
Het is heel leuk om te zien dat er vanuit de hele wereld (heel veel) mensen op mijn blogje lezen, maar dat is allemaal zo ver weg.

De eerste conferentie telefoon van SNOM is direct een groot succes, geen beginnersfout te ontdekken! SNOM bouwt verder met de kennis van VoIP met hun eigen VoIP stack en breedband audio codecs (7Khz, G.722). De SNOM MeetingPoint werkt uiteraard full duplex.
Door de speciale microfoons en goede luidsprekers kunnen tot 10 deelnemers deelnemen aan een conference call zonder in te boeten in geluidskwaliteit. Door gebruik te maken van de eigen omgevingsgeluid-onderdrukking algoritmes merk je geen verschil met een beller die de hoorn in de hand heeft. De maximale oppervlakte voor een goed verstaanbaar gesprek is 30 vierkante meter, voor grotere ruimtes kan de SNOM MeetingPoint worden uitgebreid met extra microfoons.

Het toestel ziet er super uit en is mooi afgewerkt het misstaat in geen enkele vergaderruimte.

Looking at the current standards the TPLINK TL-WR941ND is a great broadband router. It's a high throughput router with 1 ethernet WAN port and a 4 ports 10/100Base-TX ethernet LAN switch. The wireless access point is 802.11N compliant and delivers 300Mbps by the 3T2R MIMO standard. Which is more than most routers currently on the market can deliver you.
We did some testing and came to a 80Mbps routing throughput (FTP transfer from WAN to LAN) which is suitable for even the fastest cable internet connections from Ziggo. The throughput is also sufficient for VDSL2 from KPN or Tele2.
The CCA (tm) mechanism gives you the highest possible throughput and longest range in high disturbance environments (and it's high disturbance anywhere in urban areas in the Benelux...). This device is equipped with the latest wireless security standards but QSS (Quick Security Standard) makes sure it's easy to setup the security. TPLINK QSS is 100% compliant with the WPS standard so you can combine different brands of products in one network environment. (why would you...just buy more TPLINK )
The antennas are detachable so can be replaced by high gain ones.
