Setting up XDove mailserver for QNAP
Working on the XDove mail server package for QNAP. The package is easily installed by the QPKG package manager but then the real work starts. My provider is handling my DNS records so that is no worry, but how to make sure my new mail server is not relaying for spammers? I think I have everything set-up correctly but I do not want to be in the anti spam servers/lists all over the internet.
The package itself is great:
- XMail for as MTA
- PHPXmail webbased tool to configure the XMail server
- uebimiau as webmail client (supporting pop3 and imap)
- Dovecot as IMAP server
- Roundcube as alternative webmail client (I do not use this one)
- WebCalendar as a shared calendar application (I do not use this one)
Well, I need to migrate all people using the server and then go LIVE. I'll post when I'm done and/or successful.
Great new coffee pad machine :)
Our old Inventum coffee maker died. Rest In Pieces...
Now we needed a new machine with one very important feature: being able to select coffee strength individually (we use coffee pads so it's not so simple as with old fashioned machines). When shopping I saw this Philips machine that also can create hot milk foam at the same time, now we can have Coffee Latte, Latte Machiato and so on!
Taste is great, it's quick and easy to create a great cup of coffee.
We do not use the original Douwe Egberts coffee pads. We prefer a blend of 90% arabica and 10% robusta. Great taste for a low price from....who guessed....IKEA.
I can't wait for our lazy Sunday morning coffee.
Provisioning software TR-069 (135, 104 etc.)
Most provisioning software is expensive and bulky. A lot of standard features that are nice for marketing and sales but that's it. Valadis has created a lean and mean TR-069 engine that consist of only 4 components, all you need. These components are:
- Southbound engine; this is the engine your back office applications can talk to in XML
- Database MySQL; this is where all settings are stored
- Northbound engine; this engine talks to your CPE in TR-069 (or 135, 104 etc.)
- Kicker; this is a daemon who kicks a CPE then settings are waiting for it without waiting for a scheduled check
We developed this software to support our clients in lowering the costs for managing their CPE fleet. The software is completely open to the customer after purchase. A lot of devices support a TR-xxx standard these days; xDSL modem/routers, FTTx CPE, settop boxes and more. Interested?
ps. did I mention the very low cost for this software when combined with CPE purchase?
Coming soon: TPLINK TL-WR1043ND
Soon to be available for the EU market; a high performance Home broadband router with gigabit switch and 300Mbps wireless N. This router has all features a high demanding consumer needs but with it's easy setup it's suitable for less technical oriented users also. The 100mW RF output power is much more then current wireless N routers in the market and will extend the reach and usability. Have a look at the website of this value for money vendor for more information and have a look at the still growing Dutch supportpages.
UPDATE: We expect the stock 1st of December 2009 !
Wordpress blogging on a QNAP TS-239pro
Since I have been posting so much already on my new blog it's only fair to give some credits to the incredible blogging software Wordpress and the people behind it. It's a great piece of software which comes in a QPKG package so any idiot like me can install and configure it on a QNAP NAS. It's great to see how many themes, plugins and widgets you can find and use freely. All from within the admin console of the software!
I look forward to extend my blog and keep filling it with my thoughts and interests.

Nice free screen capture appl for Mac OSX
I needed a screen capture application for my Macbook AIR. I'm used to work with SnagIT for windows, so I googled for someting for my MAC. I found Jing. Jing comes in 2 versions: free and pro. The pro version can capture longer videos but I only need static screen capture functionality so free will do for me
This is their website: Jing
